Tanya R. VanOsdol

Tanya R. VanOsdol, 77, passed away at her home June 29, 2025 in Arlington. She was born July 9, 1947 in Rushville to the late Marion Ray and Roberta Zike (Keaton) Steffey. Tanya is survived by her loving husband David. They were married November 28, 1965. She is also loved and remembered by her children Jason (Brandy Bradford) VanOsdol and Rachel (Hobie) Hurst of Arlington, Indiana. Tanya was an amazing grandmother to her grandchildren who called her “Mimi” and “Miece” (Moriah Armstrong, Chaz VanOsdol, Josh VanOsdol, Emmy Lee Wallace, Paul Hurst and Sarah Hurst and great grandchildren Neveah, Michael, Caspian.) They miss her dearly. Tanya was a member of Arlington Christian Church where she played piano beautifully for almost 60 years. She was known for sharing her musical talent, friendship and generosity. Tanya was known for her love of learning and teaching. She graduated from Arlington High School (Arlington, Indiana) in 1965. She received her BS and Master's in Education from Ball State University. She taught elementary education in Shelby and Rush counties. She retired from Rush County Schools in 2007 and was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association. Tanya spent her retirement loving and caring for her dogs and cats, reading (especially Harry Potter), spending time with her family and friends, attending sporting and 4H events for her grandkids, photography and quilting with her friends at their monthly retreat. She was also the recording secretary for the Daughter's of the Republic. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her sisters, Kathy (Steve) Wooldridge, Kenya Beasley and Carla (Brad) Newcomer. Brothers-in-law, Bob Jones and Ed Lyskowinski. Tanya will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Tanya was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Leisa Ann Steffey Jones and brothers-in-law David Mann, Ron Beasley and Robert VanOsdol, sister-in-law Betty Mann Lyskowinski and nephew David Wooldridge. Friends and family are welcome to visit Wednesday, July 23, 2025 from 4 pm-7pm at Arlington Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Arlington Christian Church with pastor Gary Holt presiding. Graveside service will follow with burial of ashes at Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Arlington Christian Church or The Rush County Community Foundation in memory of Tanya.
