    Nancy Jean Campbell

    May 16, 1930 - March 10, 2020

Nancy Jean Campbell Badger passed away at the age of 89 on March 10, 2020, in Huntington New York. Mrs. Badger was born May 16, 1930 in Rushville Indiana to May Taylor Campbell and Dudley Campbell. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Music Education at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Ohio in 1952. She gave music lessons in San Mateo California from 1954 to 1958. Upon moving to Long Island, New York in 1960, Mrs. Badger taught elementary music education in the East Meadow School District from 1960 to her retirement in 1993. She taught general music and conducted school choruses for 15 years. After that, she taught stringed instruments and conducted school orchestra for 18 years. Her playing talents included the flute, piano, recorder, violin, viola, and cello. After retirement Mrs. Badger returned to her hometown, where she gave violin lessons and brought the children to play concerts in local churches. She was a member of Rushville's Music Study Club, and for a while she directed the Main Street Christian Church's choir. In addition to music, Mrs. Badger's lifelong passion was knitting. She created hundreds of pairs of socks and sweaters--especially children's sweaters--for her family members and the children and grandchildren of her teacher friends. It amazed people how she could knit a complicated pattern while carrying on a conversation. Mrs. Badger was predeceased by her parents, her husband Philip K Badger, her sister Joyce Lee Campbell Spillers, and her daughter Cynthia. She is survived by her daughters Carol, Julie and Alice, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will take place at the Main Street Christian Church, Rushville, on September 11, 2020 at 2 PM, with Pastor Chip West presiding. Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery in Raleigh Indiana.
