Connie Kay Rankin; 1941 - 2021 Surrounded by family, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Connie, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the age of 79. Connie Kay Rankin was born on October 8, 1941 in Rushville, Indiana, to the late William DeWight Rankin & Doneada Ruth (Fortner) Rankin. Remembered as a constant ray of sunshine, Connie’s 5 children, Phillip (Denise) Connolly, Andrew Connolly, Peter A.(Jana) Connolly, Matthew Connolly, and Steph (Joe) Hogsett, knew nothing but unconditional love, support, and kindness from their mother. While raising her family with her former husband, Peter O. Connolly, they lived everywhere (and luckily, Connie loved to move) from Chicago, Quonset Point, Rhode Island, Memphis, Tennessee, and even the Kenitra City in Morocco in northwest Africa, and then finally home to Rushville. After her children were raised, Connie worked at Kroger and retired after 27 years. She will always be remembered for her kind heart and quiet, but big, personality. When Connie finally decided to get her driver’s license later in life, and let the local cab service have a break, she could be found taking long country drives that she loved, especially when one of her grandkids were sitting right beside her. Spending time with her family was the most important thing to her, and those memories will live on with the stories we get to share and reflect upon. Along with her children, Connie is survived by 11 grandchildren, Lance, Michelle, Blake, Leah, Carter, Benham, Shine, Courtney, Paige, Ella, and Eli; 2 step grandchildren, Will, and Eden Marr; and 4 great grandchildren, Sullivan, Keagan, Prudence, and Lyla. She is also survived by her brothers Robert “Butch”(Sally) Rankin, William (Janie) Rankin, Michael “Otis” Rankin, and Kevin (Aimee) Rankin; 2 sisters, Sally Sue Boyer, and Lisa (Tim) Kennedy. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Mark David Rankin, and brother, Robin Rankin. A special thank you to all of the nursing home staff at Miller’s Merry Manor for the kindness, loving care, and friendship so freely given to our mother for nearly the past 3 years. Services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Moster Mortuary, 334 N Main St, Rushville, Connie will be remembered and celebrated by her family and friends from 11 AM until 2 PM on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Goddard Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rushville Animal Shelter or to Youth in Philanthropy through the Rush County Community Foundation.
