Violet Leora Parker

Violet Leora (Love) Parker passed away peacefully Friday June 30, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by family. She was born Sept. 4, 1921 to Oscar and Mamie (Vanvolkenburgh) Love. Violet was a 1939 graduate of Osgood High School. She married the love of her life, Ralph Parker, on March 13, 1943 and the two settled in Rushville. Initially, Violet worked at the Glove Factory, and the International Furniture Company. She stopped working outside the home however when the couple began their family. She often reminisced about her days sewing clothes for their three children, helping with Boy Scouts, and volunteering at church. As the children grew older, she had more time for hobbies like cooking/baking, crocheting, reading, going for walks, and latch hook. Her favorite thing to do though was spend time with her family. She loved planning/attending family reunions, and looking at old family photos. For a few years she worked at Pioneer Hi-Bred International before she finally retired. After Ralph passed away, Violet continued to live in their home on Sexton Street, attend the Rushville Nazarene Church, and kept in touch with friends and family through the forgotten art of letter writing. She unfortunately had some health issues over the past few years which led to several brief stays at Flatrock River Lodge where she still has many friends. She happily celebrated her 95th birthday last year with numerous friends and family members in attendance. Violet touched so many hearts during her lifetime. She loved the Lord and her family, had a thirst for knowledge, and lived life to the fullest until the very last. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, son John, brothers: Oscar (Bernice) Love, Walter (Roberta) Love, Clayton (Thelma)Love, Wayne (Norma) Love, sister Vanetta (Gayle) Foley, and nephew Walter Love, Jr. She is survived by her children: Linda (Bob) Anderson of Johnstown, PA; and Kevin Parker (Jeanie Wilson) of Rushville; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, and nephews. Services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, July 6, 2017 in the Rushville Church of the Nazarene. Friends are welcome to visit at the church from 11 AM until time of service on Thursday. Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rushville Church of the Nazarene.
