Penny Kay Busald

Penny Kay Busald (also known as Momma, Gaga, Penny B, Aunt PP,and P) of Rush County passed away March 31, 2025. She was born in Shelbyville on April 25, 1961 and was the beloved eldest daughter of Robert W. and Jean M. (Drewes) Spaeth. Penny was a 1979 graduate of Rushville High School and the 1980 Miss Rush County. She shares a beautiful love story with her husband, John, of 42 years whom she married on November 26, 1982. She obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) and spent her career working in geriatrics. Penny started working in high school as a CNA at Miller's Merry Manor of Rushville where she went on to become LPN, RN, DON and then Administrator (HFA), retiring in October 2021. Her leadership and dedication to the Miller's Merry Manor family is one of lasting impression. Penny was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a past President of Rush County Victims Assistance where she was still an active board member. In her retirement, she also volunteered at St. Mary Catholic School. She faithfully and lovingly led her big family with wisdom and grace. She loved the beach, traveling, and reading. She formed deep and lasting friendships that held a special place in her heart. She had a beautiful individual connection with each of her grandchildren. If she wasn’t loving on her grandchildren or traveling with the love of her life, she was silently and humbly helping others. In her passing, she gave the ultimate gift of life through organ donation. She was known for her class, beauty, and winning smile. She was the life of every party, living every second to the fullest and finding joy in every day. In addition to her husband John, she is survived by her parents, Robert W. and Jean M. (Drewes) Spaeth; daughter, Jenna (Adam) Schwering and sons, Shohn (Ashley) Busald, Cory (Amber) Busald; siblings, Scott (Tracy) Spaeth, Christopher (Wendy) Spaeth, Julie (Alan) Niehoff, Toni (David) Schultz and Scarlett (Kyle) Lux as well as Tina Gibson, Bob Watts, and Alice Thompson. Gaga will be missed by her Magnificent Seven, her grandchildren, Jocelyn Kay Schwering, Lain Busald, Haley Busald, Tuff Busald, Tate Busald, Asher Schwering and Rylan Busald. Penny was preceded in death by her grandparents and sister, Molly Kay Spaeth. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11 AM in St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Jeremy Gries and Father Dustin Boehm presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at the church. Rosary will start at 8:30 AM. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Catholic School or Rush County Victims Assistance in memory of Penny. Moster Mortuary entrusted with the arrangements for Penny. Penny was a lot of things to a lot of people, but to everybody she was everything.
