Doug Hughes

Doug was born and raised in the Wichita Falls, Electra, Tx area. He was not what you would exactly call a model student, but he had a true appreciation and affinity for tinkering. He quickly became skilled in the art of taking things apart and rebuilding them to his liking, which usually meant louder and faster. Doug spent 20 years working for Mobil Pipeline before he built his own business as a mechanic, servicing countless drivers in Rush County, IN. He spent the last decades of his life driving various trucks for Fraley and Schilling and was inducted into their Million Mile Club. He was a lover of motorcycle road trips and some of the most fun he had included sharing those with his dearest friends. He humbly became clean and sober at 38 years old and gave tirelessly to the efforts of Alcoholics Anonymous every day for the remainder of his life. He was a walking example that you are not too late…that you are always one decision away from a radically different life…that it doesn’t matter what your life looks like to anyone else, as long as it’s what’s good for YOU…that letting go brings abundant freedom…that the hard parts are worth it…that you are more capable than you even know, regardless of how old you are. Doug took great pride in his roles as both Dad and Grandpa. Taking 3 young girls camping and fishing surely is no easy feat and could be considered among his greatest accomplishments. He filled their background with guitar strumming and deserves a great deal of credit for their good taste in music. He was a firm believer that a grandpa’s job was to help children get into the mischief they haven’t thought of yet, and he took that job very seriously. He believed fiercely in his kids’ ability to accomplish anything they set their minds to, and he was truly his granddaughters’ biggest fan. He was a lover of Jesus through and through. He fought the good fight. He has finished his race. He kept the faith and surely he has now heard the words, “well done, good and faithful servant.” Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Hartwell and Patsy (Seat) Minderman, as well as his brother, Danny Hughes. He is succeeded by sons Steve Morris and family, Randall Hughes, Nick McBroom, his wife Andrea, and their daughter Ava. He also leaves behind daughters Jennifer (Hughes) Burklow, Merideth Hughes, Samantha (Hughes) Brazel, and granddaughters Hadley and Reagan Burklow and Nora Spaeth. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 10, 2026 at 10 AM in Main Street Christian Church with Pastor Chip West presiding.
