Cynthia "Cindy" S. Schroeder

Cynthia “Cindy” Schroeder (Hignite), age 72, of Rushville, Indiana, passed away on December 16, 2025. Cindy was born in Connersville, Indiana, on February 9, 1953, the daughter of Drexell Hignite and Gwyneth Hignite, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Richard “Rich” Schroeder, the love of her life. Together, they provided a loving and peaceful home where their children could love and grow. Their marriage was marked by commitment, partnership, and deep devotion. She is also survived by her daughter, Laura Marszalek (Joshua Marszalek); her beloved grandchildren, Levi and Kathryn Marszalek, who were the joy of her life; her sisters, Lynnette Richardson (Benji Richardson), Amy Christie (Thomas Christie), and Melinda Gates (Bill Gates); nieces Krista Foreman (Kirk Foreman) and Megan McMillan; and nephews Eric Gates (Alison Gates), Brian Christie, Connor Christie, Brent Christie, and Adam Christie. Cindy was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Schroeder; two infant brothers, Jeffery and Eric; her parents; and her grandparents. Cindy dedicated her working life to serving others. She was employed as a teller at Local Finance and Rush County National Bank, and later retired from Human Resources at Fayette Regional Hospital in Connersville, Indiana. She donated her time as a tutor at Orange Elementary and as Secretary of the Orange Cemetery. Cindy loved people and cherished her relationships. She was generous with her time and resources whenever the opportunity arose. She especially adored her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. Cooking and trying new recipes brought her great joy and created many meaningful experiences and memories she held close. Cindy was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rushville, where she began her journey of faith. She will receive her final Catholic Funeral Mass at the same church. Visitation will be held from 8:30-11:00 am on Tuesday, December 23, at Moster Mortuary in Rushville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rushville, Indiana the same day, with burial at Orange Cemetery in Glenwood following. Memorial contributions may be made to Warriors for Kathryn, in honor of her granddaughter Kathryn and her family.
