Charlaine "Sherry" Miller

Charlaine “Sherry” Miller, 86, a long time Rush County area resident, passed away June 4, 2024 in Rushville. Sherry was born July 25, 1937 in New Castle to Charles R. Shirk & Ruthelaine (Peele) Wherry. She was a 1955 graduate of Bedford High School in East Cleveland, OH and attended Hiram College of Liberal arts in Hiram, OH. She married John M. Miller on August 15, 1957 and he survives. Sherry did all the secretarial work for CFS in Mays, IN. alongside John who managed the plant for many years. She also worked at the Durbin Hotel and Minear’s Department store. While Sherry was in high school she was a drum majorette for the marching band. She enjoyed playing piano & organ on the Showboat Majestic in Cincinnati during her college years. She was a member of Plum Creek Christian Church where she had played piano & organ and taught Sunday school. She had been active in the Gingham Gals and the Rushville Elks Lodge #1307. Sherry enjoyed many years of golfing and had 2 holes-in-one! Sherry was a wonderful wife and mother & was greatly loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by husband, John, of Rushville, son, Chris (Mary Ann) Miller of Rushville, daughters, Kim Miller Mahan and Kay (Stan) Richards all of Rushville, brother, David Shirk of Rochert, MN, sisters, Barbara Wherry of AZ, Virginia Beeman of TX, Diane Avant of Washington, Kris Shirk Adams of CA and Susie Burger of MI, grandchildren, Aaron Coon (Summer Hunsinger), Johnny (Katie) Miller, Zachary (Angela) Miller, Conner Mahan (Danielle Bertelsen), Jordan Riley (Mackenzie) Miller, Satchel Tatum (Allie) Gray and Samantha (Cliff) Richards Weaver and 13 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Karrie Gray, great granddaughter, Tobi Lynn Coon, sister, Janet Acuna and half- brother, Tom Shirk. Services will be held at 1 PM Monday, June 10, 2024 in Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Pastor Phil Brashaber presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family from 10 AM until service time on Monday. Burial will be in Rushville’s East Hill Cemetery.
